Selkies are a beautiful, unique race that are able to transform from a seal to a human by shedding its skin in the water or on shore at will. They can go through this transformation at any age. As they age from child to adult, they human form begins to look more normal. When a child is in their human form, their body is cover in a short, sleek gray fur with typical seal-like spots on their bodies. The shades of fur differ form child to child, and their ears are long, somewhat described as deer-like, sticking out on both sides of their head. All of these traits disappear during their teenage years, looking almost completely human except for their eyes and hair. Their eyes are completely solid black, leaving little whites in their eyes. Their hair in their human form goes from a range of white, to blue, to gray, or to black, differing in all shades. And adults skin tone appears as a normal humans, shedding their fur from childhood.
Once finding a mate, it is said that a Selkie as to chose between the love of their life, or the water; their home. If choosing to stay with a mate on land, a Selkie looses their ability to morph back into a seal, and return to the waters they live for. If choosing the water, their desired mate will cry into the water’s shore. And, with counting on how many or few years they shed, is only when the Selkie can return to their human form and be with them for only seven days.
Selkies can also find mates within one of their kind, which isn’t uncommon—so they wouldn’t have to go through the hardships of choosing between the land and sea.
Unbeknowest to land dwellers, the Selkie actually have a grand, secretive kingdom deep down on the ocean floor where it is surronded by a large bubble that keeps air in, and also acts as a barrier for protection. There, the Selkie roam around in thier human-like forms, only usually taking to their seal form when traveling from their to the surface.
Possible Areas:
The Lucine Ocean. It is said that the relations between the Selkies and Merfolk are unstable, so the races are known to stay away from each if met in sea or on land.
